![]() The Duo increases the size and weight of your MacBook Pro charger as well. Plug the entire charger into the wall and charge up to three devices at once - it’s a piece of cake. The top USB-A port is a 2.1 amp port for fast charging iPhones and iPads, while the lower-powered 1 amp port on the bottom is designed for an Apple Watch or an iPhone. The actual PlugBug Duo simply slides onto your USB-C MacBook Pro charger where the original adapter was located and provides two USB-A ports for charging any USB devices. If you need a world travel adapter, PlugBug Duo is a no-brainer. However, inside the box are also a plethora of international adapters, allowing PlugBug Duo to pull double and triple charging duty in over 150 countries. The Twelve South PlugBug Duo ships in a surprisingly big box, considering its multi-charging ethos. I’m happy to report the Duo goes a step further in a few unforeseen ways, even though the red adapter is (subjectively) an eye-sore.Įditor’s Note: Twelve South provided this PlugBug Duo free of charge for purposes of review. The PlugBug Duo doesn’t promise the world, so it’s fairly easy for the device to follow through on its premise. ![]() From the top, the PlugBug Duo promises to eliminate charging clutter in your bag and make it easier to top up your devices all at once. The PlugBug Duo plugs into a standard MacBook Pro charger by replacing the little plug-in adapter and provides two USB-A ports to expand the charger’s capabilities. ![]() Twelve South sent me the PlugBug Duo a few months ago to alleviate this inconvenience. My bag for our weekend trip this past weekend was nothing short of this catastrophe - two Apple Watch charging pucks for my watch and my wife’s watch, an iPad charger, an iPhone charger, a MacBook Pro charger, and a charger for my Fuji X-T2. If you have a MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch, charging all these devices requires up to four chargers and four different cords. Support documents that: “The hinge area of your MagSafe Duo Charger might wrinkle over time if kept in the folded position.” Apple advises against “Leaving your MagSafe Duo Charger in a very hot environment (like the inside of a car on a hot day) in the folded position” as that might lead to deep wrinkles. The bane of every weekend trip is having to pack cords and chargers. These cards should not sit between the back of the iPhone and the charger as it could damage magnetic strips or RFID chips. Prior to 2018 Apple was selling a 28W adapter – if you have one of these it won’t work with the MagSafe.Īnother issue is that before charging your devices you should remove credit cards or other cards if they are concealed in the pocket of one of Apple’s cases. Since the charger is missing, Apple recommends you purchase a 20W or 27W power adapter.īeware that even if you already own such a power adapter it may not be compatible. With a length of one meter, the cable is also not suitable for every location. This means that if you don’t already own one you need to also purchase a USB-C charger to use it, your old USB-A adapter wow’t work. It’s got a very high price of £129/$129 (buy fromĪpple US here), which is exacerbated by the fact that only a short USB-C to Lightning cable is included.
